MASSAGE MODALITIES
SWEDISH MASSAGE is a classic European technique that promotes overall relaxation using a variety of long flowing strokes. Your therapist uses oil or cream and gently rolls, kneads and pushes your muscles to help increase your body’s circulation which in turn eases muscle tension and aches and helps lower blood pressure. Massage also increases range of motion, improves flexibility and stimulates relaxation. This popular modality will make you go “AHHH”.
PREGNANCY MASSAGE is designed for the specific needs of the expectant mother and can be a very profound experience. In addition to providing emotional support, this slow and easy massage can help reduce joint pain due to weight gain and postural imbalance. It can improve breathing and relaxation and provide relief from uncomfortable digestive issues as well as helping reduce the discomfort of backaches, stiff necks, leg cramps and swollen ankles and feet. Your therapist uses special positioning and cushioning for optimum comfort and safety. There is no better way to take care of yourself at this special time in your life.
Please note: We ask that all prenatal massages take place AFTER the first trimester –13 weeks or beyond and obtain a written approval from your OB prior to your massage session.
SPORTS MASSAGE is a firmer, deeper and more intense treatment. Using Swedish massage strokes as a foundation, your therapist combines cross-fiber friction, compression, trigger point techniques and stretching to help athletes and weekend warriors alike manage tightness and injuries due to overexertion or overuse. It is a great way for anyone in a demanding job, or under occupational, emotional and postural stress, to manage aches and pains.
DEEP TISSUE massage is therapeutic in nature as opposed to relaxing. It works deep into the muscle tissue and works across the fibers. Slow, deep movements are used to release muscles, aid in the reduction of scar tissue, and increase range of motion. This type of massage is designed for individuals wanting more detailed bodywork on specific muscle groups. Deep tissue massage is much like doing a workout. If the muscles aren’t used to it, they often respond with some soreness, but the soreness should not last more than a day or two. If the soreness lasts longer, the massage treatment may have been too intense, and your therapist will adjust the pressure in the next session. However, just as with exercise, over time your body will adapt to having this type of massage and your physical response will also be less intense.
REHABILITATIVE MASSAGE is the ultimate deep tissue treatment and because you may experience discomfort during the treatment it is not for the fainthearted. Your therapist uses a blend of sports massage in combination with deep tissue and myofascial techniques to help break up and eliminate scar tissue and release restricted fascia aiding in improved range of motion. Should you desire or require it, your therapist will work directly with your medical or healthcare professional to assure you receive a comprehensive and coordinated level of care.
